Happy Reformation Day

On October 31, 1517 Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses on the door of The Castle Church in Whittenberg, Germany. The theses was a challenge to the Roman Catholic Church on the power of the pope to grant indulgences for the forgiveness of sins. Luther took his stand on the Word of God, and though all the powers of the Roman Catholic Church stood against him, it was they that stumbled and fell back, and the course of Western Civilization was changed. What a brave man Luther was, --thru the power of the Holy Spirit. Later at the 'Diet of Worms' when asked if he wanted to recant, he replied:

"Here I stand. I cannot do otherwise. God help me. Unless I am convicted by scripture and plain reason - I do not accept the authority of the popes and councils, for they have contradicted each other - my conscience is captive to the Word of God. I cannot and I will not recant anything for to go against conscience is neither right nor safe. God help me. Amen."
